Continuing our series focusing on the talented singers/songwriters I've
had the privilege of working with over the years, this is the third and
last (for now) in a series of three tracks featuring Mia Tepper.
The recordings featured here were (are?) to be part of a CD project that
Mia and I were working on together called "Fearfully and Wonderfully Made",
which included a mix of original music and re-workings/arrangements
of a number of our favorite hymns and worship songs.
You can read more about that project
here.
"Be Still" was the last piece of music I wrote before 9/11/01
and was to be the last piece of music I would write for a long time.
I was working through it at church prior to a "Fearfully" rehearsal and
decided to play it for Mia. She really liked it and after learning the
melody, added lyrics to it, which we then worked together on.
As with "Oh Most High", the lyrics speak to me now in a
way that I simply was not prepared to hear in 2001-2002.
A short piece of music, I consider this to be one of the
prettiest melodies I've ever written, requiring little ornamentation
or embellishment. When I played many of the pieces for this CD for
Pastor Jim, he liked this one so much that he wanted to include it
in what would be our next CD, "On Broken Wings", especially
as it fits the "Songs of Healing" motif. It ended up being
the final track on the CD, sung by Kirsten.
Enjoy!
