Matt Beckham, a fellow church member at Salem Evangelical Free Church, is a talented singer, songwriter, actor, playwright, husband, & Christian, though not necessarily in that order. :-)
"My Savior's Voice" is a song Matt brought to me to provide (as he so aptly put it), the "nuts & bolts" to a very emotional melody & lyric. I perceive the song to be a modern-day "Because He Lives". Kirsten & I arranged the choir parts based closely on Matt's ideas for it. On this recording, Matt is singing the lead vocal, Kirsten & I are singing the choir parts, & I'm playing all of the instruments.
Our choir performed this song at our annual Spring Concert in a few weeks ago.

In Matt's words:
"My Savior's Voice" was inspired by great American Hymns like "Old Rugged Cross" and "Amazing Grace". Although I don't pretend to reach the heights of those classics I do have a bit of a history with them. From birth I was in my Father's church: First Baptist Jefferson, Texas, listening to the great hymns performed.
As a gospel song, "My Savior's Voice" is part of a grouping (Gospel, Country, Field Songs, European Ballads) that birthed the Blues. I feature the song in a screenplay that I've written about the Blues called: "Midnight Rain". By writing this song I have attempted to place the Blues at the heart of popular music and place Gospel at the heart of the Blues.
